In Russia, kidnapped Ukrainian children are psychologically harassed, called names for being Ukrainian, and even beaten for disobedience.

“Very often, children are punished for refusing to speak Russian, refusing to learn and sing the Russian national anthem, to stand up during the Russian national anthem.

Almost all the children testified that they were psychologically abused very much, called different names for being Ukrainians. There are even children who testify that they were beaten for such disobedience,” says the Commissioner for Children’s Rights.

The children had photo evidence, but the Russians forced them to delete all photos and videos when they were handed over to their parents. Currently, Herasimchuk only has the oral testimony of a child.

The commissioner said that she currently has information on more than 19,500 deported and forcibly displaced children. And the Russians themselves called the figure 744 thousand “evacuated” children.

Some children were taken to Russia or relocated to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

“Currently, there is information on 19,514 children based on the fact that local authorities, relatives, relatives, parents and witnesses of deportation and forced relocation…

We understand that our list is not exhaustive. We are talking about at least several hundred thousand children abducted by the Russian authorities,” says Gerasimchuk.

So far, 327 children have been returned to Ukraine.

According to him, the deportation of more than 16,000 children has been confirmed so far.

“We have managed to return 307 of them. To do more, the help of the international community is needed,” Kostin stressed.

The Kremlin forcibly relocates and deports thousands of children from the occupied Ukrainian territories deep into Russia, using 43 camps and other facilities.

“Such actions obviously will have serious long-term implications on these children’s development,” Price noted.

The Department emphasized that the illegal transfer and deportation of protected persons is a serious violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and a war crime.

In this regard, the United States called on Russia to immediately stop the forced relocations and return the children to their families and legal guardians.

On January 14, a Russian missile hit an apartment block in Dnipro. A section with 72 apartments, which could accommodate up to 200 people, was destroyed. More than 300 apartments have been damaged.

Since September 7, a total of 920 bodies of citizens, including 25 children, have been found in the de-occupied territories of the Kharkiv region. The Defense Forces have de-occupied 340 settlements in Bohodukhiv, Izium, Kupyansk, Kharkiv, Chuhuiiv, and Derhachi districts were deoccupied in the Kharkiv region, reported by the head of the National Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, Volodymyr Tymoshko.

Petro Andriushchenko, Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol, suggests that the murder was committed by mercenaries from the Russian private military company “Wagner”. According to Andriushchenko, this crime was openly ethnic in nature, as a family of Roma ethnicity had been killed. In addition, all those killed had bullet wounds to the head from close range.

On December 17 Ukrainian rescuers have recovered the body of a one-year-old boy from the rubble of a residential building after a Russian attack on the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih.

On November 23, as a result of shelling by Russian troops at the maternity ward of the Vilnianskyj hospital in the Zaporizhzhia region, an infant died.

On November 22, as a result of enemy shelling in the city of Kherson, two boys aged 10 and 13 were injured.

On November 20, Russian troops struck 10 settlements in the Donetsk region, among the wounded was a child. According to the National Police, the Russian military fired mortars at Vuhledar, injuring a child born in 2007. He is wounded in Bakhmut.

The Russian occupiers shot a family with two children in Zaporizhzhia Oblast on the night of 17-18 November.

In Kherson region, on November 14 a baby was injured as a result of shelling by the Russian Federation. An enemy shell hit a private house, reported the police.

“A family was buried under the rubble. Two women died, a four-month-old boy with serious injuries is in the hospital of the city of Kryvyi Rih,” the report says.

On October 12, in a peaceful Nikopol a 6-year-old girl was left without legs as a result of shelling. Her 33-year-old mother and another resident of Nikopol were seriously injured.

At night of the 12th of October the Russian occupying forces fired from “Hrad” and heavy artillery. More than 100 shells were fired only at Nikopol.

According to an anesthesiologist the child’s condition is now stable but in the future the girl will need surgery, rehabilitation and prosthetics.

On October 10, a 12-year-old boy was injured in a Russian strike on Slovyansk, Donetsk region.

“As of the morning of October 11, 2022, more than 1,227 children in Ukraine were affected as a result of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation. According to the official information of juvenile prosecutors, 422 children were killed and more than 805 were injured,” the Prosecutor General’s Office posted on Telegram.

The mother of a 5-year-old boy was killed as a result of Russian missile attack on Kyiv on October 10. Now the child remained an orphan, since his father died six months ago.

As a result of the attack by the rashists on Voznesensk 20 of August, the number of victims increased. Four children are seriously injured.

Another killd child in Vinnitsa exapt 4-year-old Lisa and 7-year-old Maksym was a 8-year-old Kyrylo Pyakhin who came with his mother from occupied Kherson to his relatives in Vinnytsia. 4-year-old Sashko, who was wanted for almost a month in the Kyiv region, was found dead. The child and his grandmother were fleeing from the Russian invaders from the village of Vyshgorod District by boat.

Russians shot the boy and wounded the woman when peple came out of the basement into which they started a gas. The tragedy took place in village of Vorsel, Kyiv Region on March 3.

16 yer-old-boy Vladyslav Buryak was detained by russian soldiers in the Vasylivka area on April 17, while he was evacuating from Melitopol to Zaporizhzhia. They took the boy in an unknown direction. After several months the boy was released.

Dmytro Rudnytskyi, born on August 22, 2010, and his mother, Nadiya, were killed as a result of a Russian rocket hitting the building of the “Goji” recreation center in the village of Serhiyivka, Odesa region.

On February 28, in the village of Buzova, Kyiv region, Rostislav’s family came under Russian fire. The occupiers fired a tank shell at the boy in front of his relatives. His hand was torn off and his chest was pierced… He died instantly.

On June 21, 8-year-old Margarita Gaponenko died near her house in the village of Bezruky as a result of artillery fire.

Children in Russian-occupied Mariupol are without enough food.

Under the Russian occupiers, the kitchen was set up in the yard of the institution. There is not enough food. It is prepared in old metal pans. Products are stored in improper conditions, and children are exposed to danger: they can get poisoned and catch an infectious disease,” the city council said.

Among the 23 dead as a result of the shelling of Vinnytsia by the Russian occupiers is a small child.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, so far, the death toll of the Russian strike on Vinnytsia stands at 23. Of those killed in the attack, three were children.

War deprives children of their inalienable right to life, survival and healthy development, as there is a constant threat to their lives and health in places of war or occupation, reports Ukrainer. In addition to the risk of death or injury from munitions and mines, children may come under fire or fall into the rubble of destroyed homes. For example, on March 18, rescuers pulled the bodies of seven-year-old twins from the rubble of the Chernihiv dormitory. “Maxim and Daria did not live for three months, they died with their parents when they were all buried in the basement of an ordinary apartment building, on which a Russian plane dropped a bomb,” the head of state said.

Mykola Kuleba, the former Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, said that 58 orphans had been taken from the basement of the church in occupied Kherson and were sent in an unknown direction.

According to the ex-ombudsman, 58 children under the age of 5, including children with disabilities, were on the territory of the church, where they were taken from the baby’s home.

Nearly 100 days of war in Ukraine have wrought devastating consequences for children at a scale and speed not seen since World War II, UNICEF said 1st of June. Three million children inside Ukraine and over 2.2 million children in refugee-hosting countries are now in need of humanitarian assistance. Almost two out of every three children have been displaced by fighting.

Based on reports verified by OHCHR, on average more than two children are killed and more than four injured each day in Ukraine – mostly in attacks using explosive weapons in populated areas. Civilian infrastructure on which children depend continues to be damaged or destroyed; this so far includes at least 256 health facilities and one in six UNICEF-supported ‘Safe Schools’ in the country’s east. Hundreds of other schools across the country have also been damaged. Conditions for children in eastern and southern Ukraine where fighting has intensified are increasingly desperate.

“June 1^st is International Day for the Protection of Children in Ukraine and across the region,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “Instead of celebrating the occasion, we are solemnly approaching June 3 – the 100^th day of a war that has shattered the lives of millions of children. Without an urgent ceasefire and negotiated peace, children will continue to suffer – and fallout from the war will impact vulnerable children around the world.”

UNICEF is also warning that the war has caused an acute child protection crisis. Children fleeing violence are at significant risk of family separation, violence, abuse, sexual exploitation, and trafficking. Most have been exposed to deeply traumatic events. These children urgently need safety, stability, child protection services, and psychosocial support – especially those who are unaccompanied or have been separated from their families. More than anything, they need peace.

At the same time, the war and mass displacement are devastating livelihoods and economic opportunities, leaving many families without sufficient income to meet basic needs and unable to provide adequate support for their children.

UNICEF continues to call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and to protect all children from harm. This includes ending the use of explosive weapons in populated areas and attacks on civilian infrastructure. UNICEF is appealing for full humanitarian access to safely and quickly reach children in need wherever they may be.

UNICEF and its partners are on the ground in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, working to provide children and their families with humanitarian assistance, including child protection, water and sanitation, health, nutrition and education services.

In Ukraine, UNICEF and partners have distributed life-saving health and medical supplies for nearly 2.1 million people in war-affected areas; enabled access to safe water for over 2.1 million people living in areas where networks have been damaged or destroyed; reached over 610,000 children and caregivers with mental health and psychosocial support; and provided learning supplies to nearly 290,000 children. Almost 300,000 vulnerable families have registered for a UNICEF-Ministry of Social Policy humanitarian cash assistance programme.

In refugee-hosting countries, UNICEF supports national, municipal and local systems that deliver essential services and protection, particularly for the most vulnerable children. This includes anti-trafficking training for border guards; expanding learning opportunities and integrating refugee children into schools; procuring vaccines and medical supplies; and establishing play and learning hubs that provide young children with a much-needed sense of normalcy and respite. Twenty-five UNICEF-UNHCR Blue Dots – one-stop safe havens that provide support and services for families on the move, have been established along major transit routes in Moldova, Romania, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria and Slovakia. In Moldova, over 52,000 refugees, mostly in female-headed households, have been reached through a UNICEF-UNHCR multi-purpose cash assistance programme.

UNICEF has issued a US $624.2M appeal for funds to support its humanitarian response inside Ukraine and a US $324.7M appeal for its response in refugee-hosting countries.

According to Commissioner’s psychological helpline the following cases took place in Kherson Region:

Two girls aged 12 and 15 were raped by rashists.
A 6-month-old girl was raped by a russian with a teaspoon.
Two two-year-old twin boys and their mother were at home. Five rashists broke in, one held the mother, the other two raped the children orally and anal. The children died from ruptures and blood loss.
A three-year-old boy was raped in front of his mother by two rsshists, and the child died of his injuries.

The 15-year-old girl spent ten days in the basement, where the Russians shot her mother so hard that woman bled for two days and they raped her daughter in front of a dying woman.

“They were not Chechens, but Russians. 20-year-old boys. And they said that they would do so with all Ukrainian women so that they would never give birth to Ukrainian children again. The girl periodically fainted. They poured cold water on her and continued to rape. At the same time, they drank constantly. Vorzel is not a bad place – many have wine cellars there. The Russians broke down and one day got so drunk that they forgot to tie her up. So she got out of the basement. She saw my car through the fence, and while I was delivering the packages, I climbed into the salon. I asked why she jumped in my car, and she said, “I just felt like you could save me.” She ’15! She is fragile, small, skinny, quite a child. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Europe”, told volonteer Kostyantyn Gudauskas.

The rashists raped girls under the age of 10.

So says volunteer Eugene Spirin, who worked in the morgue in Bucha after the liberation of the city.

“Some of the children killed by the Russian occupiers in Bucha and Irpen, Kyiv region, had their hands tied, which may indicate torture,” and even girls under the age of 10 were found raped”.

Every day, the Commissioner’s Psychological Assistance Line receives reports of sexual crimes by rashists which are horrible. The atrocities of russian soldiers know no bounds.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine are liberating the towns and villages of Kharkiv region, and most calls have been received from there over the past week”, reports Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denysova in her Telegram.

All the appeals are from victims or their relatives. On 18 May 10 people applied for sexual violence, 8 of them were raped minors. Including two 10-year-old boys.

“Triplets 9 years old, girls. Raped by rashists – have severe genital injuries. All this in front of her mother, she is in shock. Izum; the mother turned, and her nine-month-old daughter was raped by candlelight; a one-year-old boy was raped by two rashists and died; a two-year-old girl, raped by two, survived; raped men aged 67 and 78. Horror and rage are overflowing!”, said Denisova.

A polisman from Borodianka lost six members of his family after his house was shelled on 26 February in 2022. Among the dead there was his his one-year-old baby daughter, Polina. Actually she was breathing when her father found her but died in hospital shortly afterwards.

The occupiers hit the Donetsk region with cruise missiles and “Smerch”. The shelling killed children.

As it is noted, for days the enemy fired at 10 settlements. 38 civilian objects were destroyed.

“The following settlements came under fire: Mariupol, Bakhmut, Soledar, Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Avdiivka, Lyman, Mykolaivka, Krasnohorivka, New York. Russian troops fired on civilians from aircraft, tanks, heavy artillery, Smerch multiple rocket launchers, and cruise missiles, the statement said.

Two children died between 6:00 on May 18 and 6:00 on May 19. They were killed in Lyman as a result of a direct hit in an apartment building.

The police launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 438 (violation of the laws or customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As a result of shelling by the Russian occupiers in Donetsk region, on May 18, 10 people died.

“7 in Lyman and 3 in Bakhmut. One child was killed in Bakhmut. Seven more people were injured today”, the head of Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko reported.

Russin invadors damaged a living-house. During the examination of the rubbles of the destroyed house in Bakhmut, the bodies of two victims were found: a 2-year-old child and a 35-year-old woman, reports Donetsk prosecution.

According to the President of Ukraine, about 500,000 people were forcibly deported from the temporarily occupied territories to Russia.

“Children and adults were separated. According to our data, children were sent to different families or to orphanages, boarding schools – where there are orphans, children without parents. That is why it is a tragedy for us. We do not know this number of children, we do not know the number of people, we do not know in what condition they are. It was a deportation by force. Documents were confiscated from them, from adults in the first place, passports were confiscated and exchanged for Russian ones,” the President said.

As of the morning of May 16, 2022, more than 650 children were injured in Ukraine as a result of full-scale armed aggression by the Russian Federation. According to official juvenile prosecutors, 229 children were killed and more than 421 injured.

According to juvenile prosecutors, the most affected children were in Donetsk region – 140, Kyiv – 116, Kharkiv – 100, Chernihiv – 68, Kherson – 48, Luhansk – 45, Mykolaiv – 44, Zaporizhia – 28, Sumy – 17, in Kyiv – 16, Zhytomyr – 15.

It is also reported that a 15-year-old boy was injured on May 14 as a result of enemy shelling in the village of Lebyazhe, Chuhuiv district, Kharkiv region.

“It became known that on March 8, a 15-year-old girl died as a result of an airstrike by Russian troops in Mariupol, Donetsk region. And on March 18, a 16-year-old boy died due to shelling by the occupiers,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

The bombing and shelling of Ukrainian towns and villages by the Russian armed forces damaged 1,748 educational institutions. At the same time, 144 of them were completely destroyed.

Evacuated residents of temporarily occupied Mariupol report that the Russians are interrogating children. Such actions are taken to verify the authenticity of the testimony of their parents.

As Censor.NET reports, the ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova reported about it on Telegram.

“First, the racists interrogate the parents, trying to find out the information they need. And then, in their presence, they interrogate the children,” Denisova wrote, noting that they “look for differences in the words of parents and children.”

Such “intelligence activities” are carried out in conditions and in a way that puts special moral and psychological pressure not only on parents but also on children.

“Children feel fear and insecurity in front of the armed forces,” she added.

Such interrogations of children violate Articles 27 and 31 of the UN Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which provide for the right to protection from violence and intimidation and the right to protection from any coercion of a physical or moral nature to obtain information.

“I emphasize that no child may be subjected to cruel, degrading treatment (Article 37 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

I appeal to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to take into account the facts of violations of the rights of Russian children in Ukraine,” Denisova said.

Residents of liberated Ukrainian cities accuse the Russian occupiers not only of robbery and looting, but also of rape. Ukrainian volunteers and investigators are passing information to the International Criminal Court, and the Prosecutor General’s Office has already launched an investigation into the first rape case.
